Well I have had my PEG fitting today and it is a bit sore and tender but fingers crossed x

  • Make sure you take all available pain killers before bed for the next few nights, I woke up in a lot of pain in the early hours first time around!

  • Well they didn’t give me anything, just told me to take paracetamol and ibuprofen. Thanks Mike. Lillian

  • That will hopefully be OK, but take the maximum dosage allowed of both.

  • It's takes at least a week. Make sure yountake painkillers regularly.  Mine has been my life saver.  X

  • Hi Lillian Well done one step nearer to treatment. AS others have said take painkillers by rote i didn't have peg but know from others can take up to  a  week .Trapped wind seems common as well.

  • Wow Mike I have just read your blog, bloody hell what a journey you have been on, so sorry about your wife and about the return of your cancer.  I am afraid I don’t know what else to say, take care hun x

  • Thanks Lillian, much appreciated. Strangely enough I was talking about the blog to a counsellor last Friday; they read it and told me I should revisit it, because the time scale I've written only covers to my wife's death with nothing about my second diagnosis/consequences and life since.

  • Well done Durhamlady,i cannot really add to what the others have said sound advice from MikeO , i would also suggest you keep a laxative on standby as sometimes PEG feeding, meds, etc can have this side effect. All the best.

  • Hi. I had a PEG & it was a lifesaver. I hated it, found the ‘fitting’ traumatic but was reliant on it for several weeks. Keep ahead of the pain - painkillers on schedule. Clean, flush & turn it according to nurse’s instructions & all should be ok.
    Any questions, just ask.

You should, Mike. I read it avidly in my earlier days. You don't know how  much it helped me. You have others you can help now. Hugs
