First day going back down for treatment since Christmas break.

Two days (again) of throwing up a lot — but I pooped this morning so I’m hopeful I’m over this “can’t keep stuff down” phase again.  Knowledge has helped.   Knowing today is day 8 after chemo so sNauseated facekness day peak.  Just tired of Nauseated face and queasy and I’m not quite sure if this is ever going to end.

Im done January 10 th which is 14 days from now and then after a week or so, I’m told I’ll start to feel a bit better.  I’m hoping that’s true.  I’m in the back seat of the car armed with a full role of toilet paper and no voice whatsoever.  I guess I’m feeling sorry for myself.  Just figured I’d write it here rather than say anything at home.

  • Hey Ruth....say anything you want to here. We understand.

It's OK two feel sorry for yourself. You're entitled to after the b battering you've received. It's not forever. By Easter it will be a distant memory.

Take the "1 week feeling better" with a pinch of salt. Most of us are told two weeks as RT has a residual effect for two or three weeks. I've absolutely no idea why they tell us that. Maybe to give us hope and strength to get through the last two weeks of treatment.

Generally what most of us find is that by six weeks we are feeling a bit better and by 12 weeks there is a definite corner turned. That's exactly how I was and I didn't feel worse than I did on the last day...just really tired and worn out and defeated.

The two weeks after treatment end were just a period of sleeping, pain meds and feeding overnight. I slept for most of the first week.

You'll be fine...Just hunker down, rest and heal. You're nearly there

  • Hi Ruth sadly I have to agree with Dani..  It’s my bug bear with my oncologist who also  says 2 weeks.just pre pared to hunker down keep on top of medication hydration and nutrition.listen to your body and sleep. Six weeks can be a turnaround,I flew to Spain for 3 weeks on week 8. It’s was hubbys 60 th pre planned pre booked birthday I did it but it was hard.
Just take everything one day at a time. Rant away in here we’ve been there done it.

  • Bless you Ruth, as the girls have mentioned the one week feeling better is unfortunately not true but always remember its not forever but 3 months is a great target to aim for although the sickness and queasiness should be over long before that. The 10th is not too far away now so hang on in there and let your body rest as much as possible. All the best.

  • Hi Ruth, you are not far off the end of your treatment and this sicky phase isn’t pleasant. I totally agree with all the others about the “two weeks after treatment and you will feel better” . That wasn’t helpful , I don’t know why they say that as I was still vomiting after two weeks after treatment finished.  Im now 16 weeks post treatment and whilst taste is still an issue, life is finally settling down. It’s a roller coaster but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with it all, soon be over. Debbie x

  • Hi Ruth... sorry to hear about your treatment.

My sickness after chemotherapy and radiotherapy only lasted about a week...it was the constipation that went on for weeks but when they finally gave me something for it the results were instant...and I mean instant. But this phase passes and you will slowly start to feel better. Just hold in there and try to keep your spirits up. Good luck and you've got this
