Well had the chemo and radio treatment for base of tongue that spread to lymph nodes in Jan 2020 and got the all clear . Someone ran into the back of me about 12 weeks ago and had a scan consultant recommended salvage neck dissection which I had 4 weeks ago . Consultant said they took everything out they could but there is still cancer there . So I am back in a few weeks to see him and then another scan. He says there is treatments but it is only going to be to slow it down. On an upnote he did say there is other people like me in the same boat. .
B****r!
That's not the news you need....so sorry. Yes there are other treatments ..more chemo (but maybe they won't offer you that?), immunotherapy and there are two people in this Community on the Modi trial. Both Immunotherapy therapy and the vaccine trial are producing remarkable results......so hold onto that.
I posted in your other message to say I'd been thinking of you over Christmas but I deleted that and put it here.
Hugs
Dani
Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi Minmax
I'm in the same boat, the only treatment offered to me is two weeks of Radiotherapy { due to another health issue } Which will only slow mine down.
I've been told about cancer inhibiters/ blockers, they act like whack a mole !! every time the cancer starts up again they whack it back down.
My cancer nurse is going to have a chat with my oncologist to see if there is one available for me, so maybe worth you asking as well.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Cat
Hi Min not what you want to hear but as Dani says there’s options out there. I know a few on immunotherapy plus like Dani says the modi trial is having great results. Keep in touch sending hugs.

Sorry to hear this, but on a note of hope I have a couple of friends who did/have survived a decade on advances in cancer treatment, especially immunotherapy. I also had an in depth conversation with my hospital's main cancer consultant and she was adamant that nowadays for many cancers the new treatments are just about keeping in front of reoccurrences. That may not be quite the same for our H&N cancers as I think we are still a relatively rare bunch, but it gives hope that there is always something just around the corner in development. Fingers crossed.
Thanks Peter That confirms more or less what the consultant said that there were a couple of treatments available. I mean it was literally by having a car crash that brought my neck problem to light as I had my usual check about 5 weeks previously and nothing was spotted . He literally removed everything as he said the cancer was aggressive. I havnt really done much since the 28th of november. I am off pain killers but neck is stiff and jaw or tooth hurts occasionally , leg hurts but I think I might start going for small walks . It feels like life is on hold at the minute
Thanks Cat We are not alone and my consultant said there is others in the same boat and just a matter of staying ahead of it as you say. I hope they sort you out ok I just find it all a bit daunting at the moment . In the scheme of things it could be a lot worse and I am trying to put a positive note on it if that is possible lol
