Toungue & Lymph Gland Scan Results

Hi

I just got my results back and the radiotherapy and Chemotherapy seems to have produced "promising" (That's the word the Surgeon used) results on my tongue but there are still some issues in my lyph glands in the right side of my neck which could be either dead cancer cells or live cancer cells. So they are going to cut them out and at the same time they are going to try and widen my oesephacus somehow as i have an esophageal stricture which is stopping me getting any fluid or food down. Has anyone any experience of either of these procedures please , because to be honest I am pretty scared about it and an fed up of using the PEG. My date has been pencilled in for 21st or 23rd December and I will be in for a "few days". The surgeon also suggested washing my mouth with fizzy water and trying to sip that. Any thoughts? At the moment I just use iced water and spit ito a pot! (As I said, I'm not swallowing anything).

Thanks

Steve (looking for the light at the end of the tunnel!)

  • Hi Steve. Left over dead cancer cells are pretty common so let’s hope that’s all it is. I had a hot spot on my PET which had to be biopsied and that was clear

There have been a few people here who have had oesophageal structures dilated successfully. It sometimes needs to be repeated.
Hope you have a good result.
Bit of a bummer being in over Christmas

  • Good evening Steve, i know a lot of people who have had their Larynx (voicebox ) who have dilation of the esophagus done quite regularly maybe twice a year, they tell me the procedure is quite straightforward with no pain, just a bit uncomfortable for a day or so. It is an inconvenience but is well worth it rather than using the PEG, sometimes only one dilation is required. I also had quite a few lymph nodes/glands removed during my first operation because they looked suspect , these glands are drainage channels for liquids in our bodies/face etc when some are removed the body will find another route for drainage so you might experience a bit of swelling after the operation hence being in for a few days until the swelling goes down. We all react differently so recovery, swelling, and healing differ from person to person but all have good cure and recovery rates. Not heard about fizzy water, maybe its the CO2 in the water that helps break down the mucus. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel as many on here can vouch for. Wishing you all the best, take care.

Its sometimes not easy but its worth it !

  • Hi Steve I used a lot of soda water to try to disperse the mucus.  Try drinking sips through a straw it may help. Hope like Dani say the hot spots can be sorted out.
