Hi Durham Lady and welcome to the group.
Tonsil cancer is why most of us are here. I hade base of tongue cancer where there are "tonsils" as well as the big ones in your pharynx.
I'm coming up to 4 years clear and well. I had no cancer in my lymph nodes so avoided chemotherapy. Some people avoid radiotherapy as well. Check out Hazel's blog and have a look at MarkEL profile by clicking on his name. He has a pretty good diary.
Tonsillectomy in the adult is pretty painful so make sure you go home with some decent analgesia for a fortnight
Best of luck and let us know how you get on

Thank you so much for your support I have my surgery tomorrow so I won’t know how bad it is till after. I have an MRI yesterday but won’t get those results for a while either. It is the not knowing that is the worst.

Yes we all hate waiting and unfortunately get good at it. Your team is on it and they are good at what they do. You are in the system and you’ll be well looked after. Hugs

Hi Dani said it’s the waiting that’s the worst part all I did was try to keep busy for results coming in. It’s not easy to do but otherwise you’ll drive yourself round. The bend is the fear of the unknown once the treatment plan is finally put in place it all comes altogether.
hugs from me as well from one tonsil cancer patient to another xx

Hello. I had bilateral tonsillectomy in January. Primary in right tonsil with lymph node in neck. I then had 6 weeks chemoradiation. Keep on top of the pain by taking the pain meds on schedule. I took soluble paracetamol & was given codeine by the hospital. I found lots of iced water helpful plus apple juice & pots of pureed apple/pear ( baby food). It will take 2 weeks or so before pain improves in my experience. Any questions just ask. Is your cancer hpv positive?
I have had no results yet but I’m not looking forward to the chemo radiation
Thank you for reaching out to me I really appreciate it

It’s what we are here for. At least you have time to organise the family because you will need quite a bit of support once CRT gets under way. But don’t be scared. It’s a tough treatment but side effects are manageable. You’ll get through just as all of us here have. Take care.
