Hi it's me again. I have got to the end of week 1 of chemo radiation. Wow. One down six to go. It's been eventful. I've been so drained and nauseous I didn't think it could get worse. Felt reasonably well today and didn't need anti sickness meds or pain relief. I managed to do an hours ironing and felt ok until I ate. Who would have thought a baked potato with cheese and some stewed beef would cause so much pain in the rig. Trapped wind has been agony. I've been constipated all week and nothing will move it. After 2 attempts at treatment I finally managed to lie on the machine for a few minutes and got back from st James at 7.30pm. Honestly what a week. Thought I was ok but home to bleeding gums, a sore tongue and I'm sure my hair is starting to come out round the back. Still no movement on the bowel front even though we put a laxiso down the tube. Ah well time for the weekend and hoping for a bit of time off from the c word before it all starts again next week. Sorry for moaning. Have a lovely weekend folks x
Well done getting week 1 out of the way Jen. It is tough but it’s worth it. As for the Laxido, if you haven’t already tried it take the max dose in one go. I think it’s up to 8 sachets, but it tells you on the box. I had compacted constipation (due probably to the morphine) and it was bloody miserable. The maximum dose of Laxido did shift it fairly dramatically. Good luck, and never be sorry about “moaning”. That’s one of the main reasons for this forum All the best.
Well done, just take a day at a time, 6 further weeks may seem endless but it does go quickly. Like Mark said, you can take up to 8 sachets to deal with the constipation, take them regularly throughout the treatment as that causes its own problems on top of the issues related to the treatment! I didn’t have a RIG but a PEG, either way they also add to our discomfort, bear with it. Keep an eye on the nausea. You are not moaning , there are so many knowledgeable on this site , I have found it very comforting. I hope you have a restful weekend. Take care.

Hi Jen. As the others have said read the back if box if laxido. Impacted poo isn’t what you need. Once you’ve been please take one ir two each every day like clockwork The medication chemo and radiotherapy takes its toll but keep fixed in the end goal. ringing the bell on last day. Unfortunately Cancer doesn’t get the weekend off but try the extra laxido fingers x should work. If you can swallow then do so as quicker than using the rig. Tip once you’ve started on pain relief its best to stay in it as it doesn’t go away it will creep up on you. It’s best to take it by rote rather than chasing the pain

Hi Jen well done for getting to the end of week 1 I am at the end of week 4 now and it has gone reasonably quickly and has been manageable. I can only echo previous advice on the constipation front.... it really is something you could do without...be proactive just include the laxatives as part of your daily routine, every day. Although there just doesn't seem enough hours in the day to get all my meds, mouthwashes and feeding and so on done! keep us updated as to how you are getting on xxx
Hello Jen
Just echoing everyone elses advice. I didn't have Morphine, but know it can be problematic as can Co-Codamol (which I did have). The only other advice given to me on my first chemo visit by a veteran lady sat next to me (bless her) was to always take the meds they give you even if you feel well. Most important with regards to anti-nausea meds. I was never sick once and will always be in her debt if that was what worked.
Good luck with the rest of your journey. I was quite amazed by how fast it went once I got into this routine.

Good evening Jen89, i agree with the other comments but just recently i have had trouble with trapped wind and do suffer from constipation from time to time, i take lactulose and recently have been advised to take Infacol ( colic relief) which really does help with the trapped wind etc. Maybe have a word with your Dr or Chemist, take care.
