Hi,
i completed my RT and CT in August 2021 and like many others suffered from my skin around my throat and neck being burnt. I treated it with Flamazine and have rigorously moisturised and applied factor 50 when out in the sun. Fortunately my skin recovered quicky however I still have a lot of itching to the area particularly to the left and the right hand side of the back of my neck.
I thought this may have improved by now and intend to raise it at my next review but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to relieve it.
I will also post this on the Long Term Effects Community
Thanks
- John
Hi John. What sort of moisturiser do you use. I use Aveeno which is mild and scent free
Also your sunblock should be scent free ideally

I empathise with you John. My itchy skin drove me mad and is still now slowly improving nearly two years after treatment. I was told by my team that because I’ve had RT my neck is susceptible to cellulitis if I break the skin - eg through scratching at it - and having experienced that in my foot I certainly don’t want to get it in my neck so I am extra careful!
I still get episodes but they are becoming less frequent. That said I use moisturising sun cream when it’s sunny and I still give my neck a thorough moisturising massage morning and night using, like Dani, Aveeno cream. Having tried many many creams I find this is by far the best. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I use the green tub or the blue one. I also use a Trespass sun hat with a legionnaire’s flap whenever I’m out in the full sun. It looks a bit odd but the flap tucks away if I need it to. Those are my preventative steps, but if I do get an attack of itching I find the only thing that relieves it is pressing a very hot flannel on it. The relief is incredible and seems to last for several hours.

That’s a brilliant suggestion, Mark.
I’ll squirrel that one away for future use.

Only surgery but my skin has started incessantly itching towards the back end of the cut in my neck. I use E45 Itch Relief cream which I have used on an area of skin that apparently is a varicose vein with good effect.
Hi all,
Thank you all for your useful suggestions, much appreciated. I have bought some Aveeno and will try it. We are going to Dubai next month so will make sure I pack the Ultrasun Extreme and Tilley hat.
Particularly like the hot flannel tip Mark and I will definitly be giving it a try.
I wasn't aware of the threat of cellultis. It is so useful to know about these things; even the scary ones!
Thanks again
