Hi everyone,
I have just had my pet scan 4 months after treatment finished, good and bad news , the cancer is gone in my tonsil but there is still cancer activity in my neck, has this happened to any of you and what were the next steps ?
Hi Shaz. Yes I still had activity at my original cancer site on PET at 16 weeks. My oncologist arranged a biopsy for six weeks after which was negative. Hot spots are pretty common. Some oncologists reckon we should be being scanned at six months or even a year.
Some trusts instead of biopsy re scan a few months later. What is the plan for you?

Hi Shaz1. Sorry that it is good and bad news. This cancer thing is never easy! I guess what happens next will depend on previous treatment received and what options are now open to you. In the end the best conversation is to be had with your clinical team then come back to gain insight from others that have had the proposed treatment as to what their experiences are. In my case I have only had surgery and now am on the third round of "it may be back" so I may have options of further surgery and/or RT et al. That said I am well off the normal treatment pathway for these cancers.
Hi Shaz,
Sorry to hear you did not get the news you wanted, but in the time i have been on the site i have seen quite a few people have hotspots on the original scan that turned out to be nothing
I am not sure if they will rescan or biopsy - that will be down to your discussion with your consultant but hope it turns out to be nothing.
Hi Shaz. As others have said hot spots aren’t uncommon after treatment. When you’ve seen your oncologist let us know what’s the next step a are. I know if a few who have waited until 6 month to be scanned again others like Dani who have had a biopsy. It’s extremely rare fir our treatment to fail in the first instance. Reoccurrence s once we get ti the 2 year mark are very rare. Hugs

spot on. RT leaves a lot of inflammation no wonder scans are recommended later than we get them
