RIGG

Hi I had a RIGG tube fitted two weeks ago and old biker with other people's advise helped me (It gets better when the two buttons come away) either side of tube. What's been happening is that my stomach is still sore and  expanded also I'm suffering with a wheezing noise like regurgitation that makes me cough really bad I mean bad. Only Gavison calms it down. A nurse did comment that the RIGG did look rather high up from my belly button. I'm starting my treatment in a couple of days it was delayed a week due to a throat infection and I have been taking anti-biotics. I am not sleeping well and I am on the cusp of asking them to remove the tube. Any advice I'm run down tired before I start. Thanks.

Billbails.

  • Hi Bill, I'm sure it's in the right place. It's radiographically inserted and remember part of your stomach is under your ribs anyway so the tube will be quite high up. Tell the radiographers on your first treatment, because it sounds like you have really bad reflux. It's worth asking for something better than Gaviscon. I was and still am on Lansoprozole very occasionally and I take Gaviscon Advance (which is thicker than the other versions)

    Did you try any Buscopan?

  • Hi Bill, like Dani has said, it is sure to be in the right place. I have just had a look where mine was, and it is quite high, just under my ribs, quite away up from my belly button. It could be that it is just taking a bit longer to settle down. I also had Lansoprozole for a while, now I take Gavicon advance every night. Always let your team know about anything you are worried about, they will help. Good luck with your treatment, keep us updated. All the best.

    Regards Ray.

  • Hi Bill bails Acid reflux is is quite common especially after treatment I still occasionally take omeprazole and rarely eat pastry as that seems to trigger it. Try sleeping with extra pillows at night. As others have said keep your team in loop they are first point if contact m re rig revival yiuve come this far leave it in I needed my n g tube for 6 weeks it was my lifesaver

  • I had a RIGG fitted as i started the whole journy with a traceotomy tube, post removal it was left fitted for RT.

however the night before RT started it popped out of my stomach, i was given the option to delay RT/chemo to have another fitted but elected to plow on without it.

BIG mistake, after 30 sessions of RT i can now barly swallow liquids and drinking the meal replacement shakes (fresubin) is mighty painfull,

while it can cause some discomfort trust me the other option is way worse.

    Oh Lee that’s dreadful

Were you not offered a nasogastric tube instead?

  • Totally agree Lee055, why struggle with trying to swallow when it causes so much discomfort, i hope all has settled down now . All the best.

  • Good evening Bill, i have PEG feeding tube which is the same as a RIG but it's fitted differently and no stitches /buttons are involved, i was told that my stomach had shrunk so bloating was fairly common to begin with until i got used to the food supplements. Having a lack of sleep does not help hence feeling run down maybe you could try a mild sedative /sleeping tablet, i used to have Zopiclone which is designed to help you get off to sleep a bit easier. Im sure once the infection has gone and the weezing has settled down you will find it will get easier. Please try and keep faith in the RIG . Good luck with the treatment, we are here should you need further help or advice.
