Hi Everyone
I have HPV right tonsil Cancer 1 node. I have surgery on Tuesday to remove tumour, muscle and lymph nodes.I am not sure how many as it only showed in 1.Apparently I will have a NG tube in when I returned from Surgery is this standard practice? Also any help and advice regarding recovery would be appreciated. And I know everyone's cancer is individual but what follow up treatments did people need.
Also pooping myself a bit for Tuesday
Hi. Your NG tube won’t be in for long.
I’ll leave the other questions to others as I had no surgery.
My cancer wasn’t operable but my oncologist fixed me with radiotherapy

I had a NG feeding tube, plus a morphine line, a drain from my neck and a catheter. It sounds a lot but it was fine. I never used the feeding tube (and was accused of being ‘stoic’) but am glad it was there just in case. Try not to worry too much about Tuesday, easy said I know! But you’ll be in great hands and this sort of thing is absolutely routine for them.
If you click on my profile there’s an account of my surgery in some detail. It might help.
Hi
I had robotic surgery for left tonsil, both tonsils removed and base of tongue. Neck dissection as it had gone to node, . I did not have an NG tube fitted, I managed without one. Took a few weeks from liquid to sloppy food my first crumpet was a triumph lol. I didn’t need radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Make sure you keep up with your pain meds. I was terrified, but it wasn’t as bad as I imagined, first few weeks was the worst. You will get brilliant advice and support on here. I found a wheat bag warmed up helped a lot , my best wishes to you
Thanks , That's a read for tonight in bed with a glass of wine. There some really good ideas already. As you can tell I am really positive as I class myself a lot more fortunate that some
You’ll need a few glasses I imagine. It’s quite long! There are many people in here who’ve been through this and who also helped me along my way, and they will do the same for you too. It’s brilliant that you’re staying so positive - that’s going to help you hugely. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride but the odds are overwhelmingly on your side for a full recovery. I found it was actually a relief once treatment started as it gave me a real focus and much of my energy was taken up with recovering, trying to keep fit and preparing for the next step.
I have read it,brilliant and informative and I am not on the wine yet Its really good to have a log that I can refer too. I have just ordered a longer charging lead for my phone
Hi Can’t help with surgery as I had chemo radiotherapy, but just remember h p v tumours do respond well to treatment. If yiu are unfortunate ti need chemo and if radiotherapy we will help you with that. In meantime enjoy your wine might be a few weeks until yiu have anither ine. Best advise if yiu need ng tube use it ,it won’t be in for long. Plus take pain relief don’t be brave.

Hi Hazel, thank you for your message. I have already read your blog. I asked my consultant if the wine could go down the my ng tube. Of course she said no . Everyone please don't think I realize the serious of the situation. It's just I use humour to deal with life . Only having glass number 2 as it's very easy too get melancholy . Feeling strong today
Hazel is spot on with the HPV. Cancer driven by HPV is very sensitive to radiotherapy so curable. Hopefully you won't need it as surgery is just as good a cure if the cancer is small and margins are good. Fingers crossed
