hi me again , my husbands had his rig tube for just over a week now , he got the stitches removed on thursday everything seems fine but when he lies down lots of air comes out the side of the tube and when he bent over earlier there was fluid leakage , just looked like water , is this normal ? no really wanting to phone the helpline unless needed , hes paranoid its going to fall out
Good evening debzy, your husband's tube or area around the tube should not leak, have you been shown how to change the water in the tube as it might have gone down a bit due to evaporation or the ballon is leaking and not sealing properly. It does happen where the ballon is faulty as it happened to me so had to get it changed. Normally you can feel the ballon against the stomach lining, if it does come out then just quickly push it back in and tape it in position and get it looked at A.S.A.P. I have had my PEG since 2009 and it does occasionally weep but have not experienced any bad leakage only when i did not put the cap on and the clamp came undone. Hope you manage to get it sorted, take care.

hi chris , he flushes it out twice daily and is to do his first balloon water change this thursday , the back of the plastic that sits against his stomach is constantly wet so think there may be a problem , this has only started since he got the stitches removed on thursday , hes getting it checked on monday so will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't come out thanks
Would definitely get it checked asap Debzy, I've had two extended periods of RIG use and what you describe isn't something I've ever come across. Doesn't sound like a serious problem but better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Debby,
I also had a RIG tube fitted prior to my RT last year and I became totally reliant on it for taking my Fortisips. I did have a mild infection at the site for pretty much the whole time it was in place which failed to respond to antibiotics and antifungals which was irritating however it did clear as soon as the tube was removed. I bathed the site with salt water daily and also tried protecting the site with a Softpore dressing.
All the best with your husbands treatment.
