  • Hi everyone. I saw the ENT surgeon and oncologist yesterday in Bradford. I am officially a head and neck cancer of unknown primary patient. The examination showed an irregularity on my left tonsil and left tongue base. I will be having TORS surgery to remove both tonsils and the left tongue base as well as more biopsies to find the primary site. After that it will be intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy to the whole head and neck. We will be having our wedding in 12 days and 2 weeks honeymoon shortly after that. We want to make as many happy memories as we can before the shit show kicks off. Thanks for all your support and I will keep you updated. Jen x
  • Jen....My thoughts and hugs will be with you on your wedding day.

With luck the primary will be in the tissue they take in surgery and you can have a reduced dose of RT. My cancer was in my tongue base,  inoperable but the RT fixed it. Deep breath...this is doable. We'll see you back in a month, eh? xxx

  • You will Dani. I'm having a core biopsy of my neck lump before the wedding to screen for HPV and EBV.  I will put a couple of wedding photos on after our big day. It's going to be tough but I will have to get through it for my family x

  • Hi Jen you can do this in a years time on your first wedding anniversary you’ll look back as this time as a mere blip. My cancer was in the crypt of my tonsil it was hiding away. Have a fab wedding . Will you be treated at Leeds cancer centre ? Or Bradford Royal ? I was Leeds.
look forward to photos and gave a fab honeymoon.  You’ve got this. Rant on her remember we’ve been there done it.

  • Jen your diagnosis sounds very similar to my initial one.  I had tonsils and most lymph nodes removed.  Still no sign of it at that time.  Eventually found a tiny tumour in my tongue that may have been the primary - only for it to disappear!

CUP is sometimes difficult to get your head around but the treatment is good and I am heading towards my 3 year point now with a great quality of life.

Have a great wedding, enjoy every moment of it.  There will be some dark times to come, but for almost all of us there is a very bright shining light at the end of the treatment tunnel.

  • Hi Jen

I had my surgery at Bradford Royal, exact same diagnosis as yourself. I had robotic surgery, my consultant was and still is brilliant. The only difference I didn’t need any radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Operations x2 last August. Today I have just completed a half marathon at Roundhay Park for Macmillan. Sending hugs thinking if you
