All done treatment wise

Hello all

Well that’s me 2 weeks out of treatment now ( 6 cisplatain and 30 blasts) . I’m feeling not too bad tbh, very lethargic but nothing unexpected. I ate pretty much normally late into week 4 then went onto the softer stuff . I’ve been fortunate enough not to have lost my taste either !  I would say weeks 6 then the 2 weeks post treatment were the worst for me tbh . Funnily enough I had a sausage roll for tea yesterday with no issues (microwaved it a little so the pastry went soft lol ) which came out of the blue as I was only drinking fortisips a few days before .

Just one concern I’ve got , I can still feel one of my secondary cancerous lymph nodes (although it’s definitely shrank by at least 75%) is this anything to be concerned about ? the other 3 seem to have gone thankfully.

I seem to have got away lightly treatment wise to some of you guys , I’m guessing that’s down to no primary found and only the 4 lymph nodes to sort out . Oh btw it’s HPV by the way.

regards all and thanks again for the tips and info pre treatment it really was a massive help .

Gaz

  • Hi Gaz that’s great news , I haven’t read many positive posts on here , you’ve given me hope for when I start treatment on Monday , 2 chemo 6 weeks radiotherapy, I know everyone is different but thank you for this post xx

  • I don’t know Aly, most of us recover pretty well. I think that’s quite positive.

  • Well done Gaz. I think the younger you are the quicker and better you get through this. I was 70 when I finished but even then I think I had a pretty easy ride.

  • No worries Aly , I’m a long way off being right but listen to the good folks on here they have been there and got the tee shirt.  Good luck with the treatment btw , listen to your body would be my advice .

  • Thank you xx

  • Thanks Dani , yes I think you are right there , i had just turned 53 when I started . I think where they zap you must have a bearing also .

  • Hi Gaz, it's good you have finished your treatment, it sounds like you are doing really well with your eating, a sausage roll, only 2 weeks after treatment, that's brilliant. Any worries you have, just let your team know on your next check up, they will put your mind at rest. All the best, keep us updated on your recovery.

    Regards Ray.

I don't think anyone really gets away "lightly," we just have different degrees of hard!

  • Hi Aly,

I’m starting treatment next Monday too - 2 chemo and 6 weeks radiotherapy.  I hope we both get through it without too many side effects!! it’s great to hear that Gaz has made it through.

  • Hi Gaz

It is good to read  you have finished your treatment and are doing well.  It is great that you have not lost your taste.  I liked what you wrote about the sausage roll and microwaving this as it makes the pastry become soft.  I am on a soft diet at the mo. I  also found  that when I microwaved quiche the pastry went soft and moist, I just added some extra butter, mash with a fork and it goes down really well for me.  It is good what we can discover and share.

    Best wishes with your recovery
