I was diagnosed in September with throat/tonsil cancer, I have had 6 weeks radiotherapy and 6 chemotherapy. I had my 3 month scan and it shown that the tumour had reduced from 7.5 to 3.5. I have to have a pep scan on Tuesday, the surgeon have said if it is still cancer they will remove but if not then they will just keep checking every 6 weeks. Which worries me that it still there. Has anyone else had this and what was the out come

thanks

  • Hi again. I remember you posting last year. Well done on getting through the treatment. I had cancer in the tonsils at the base of my tongue so a similar cancer. I had 6 weeks of RT. I had a PET/CT at 16 weeks and that showed a hotspot. That means that there might have been some residual cancer. It was biopsied and nothing found. So yes, it's possible to have something show but nothing to be there. I asked when I got my scan results what the procedure would be if the cancer was still there and was told that they would attempt to remove it surgically and that immunotherapy was an option. Luckily I didn't need it and hopefully you won't

    Goods luck

  • Good even ing Elaine, this is fairly common practice , its great news that the tumour has been reduced as it shows the radio and chemo has had a big effect. Hopefully it will be just check ups for you every six weeks where will be able to keep an eye on your progress, its always good to have options at this stage and im sure your consultant will be able to tell you more once the scan is done, good luck, take care.
