I had my operation on the 7th December last year and want to stop using both the nebulizer and suction machine.

Is it save to stop, do you still use this machines and if so how often.

  • Hi Grazy

I have both and have had them for for 16 months, you will be or are very lucky if you don't have to use the suction machine as the chest is continually clearing mucus, as for the nebaliser I still have it but use it rarely, I am however going through a second cancer ttreatment and this one includes chemoa nd RT and they say my mucus may dry up which makes the stoma a bit sticky and you can't completely cough it out and if have one it gets very messy round the voive valve

  • Good evening Grazy 10, a lovely reply from Kasvin, when i had my laryngectomy i was on suction and nebuliser for two weeks while in hospital although i did not have radio or chemo after. Once the trachie was removed i found life a lot easier where suctioning was virtually nil and never had a suction machine at home just a nebuliser for about three months. I think it just depends from person to person. Best wishes.
