Hi, it’s me again, I get lots of support on here and it really helps me. Sorry if I’m a pain with all my questions!
im 6 weeks post op maxillectomy tracheostomy removal of tumour between hard and soft palate (adenoid cystic carcinoma) radial flap to plug the gap! And neck dissection.
I have developed what looks like an ulcer the size of my little finger nail on my flap, pretty much where the tumour was removed? Anyone else had this. I sort of think it’s just one of those things as surely if the tumour was removed it wouldn’t have returned and gone through the flap in such a short space of time?
thanks, Elaine
No one is a pain with asking questions Elaine so don't worry about that.
I can't help with your specific problem although others might be able to. Just to say though, if you're ever unsure about lumps etc it's always worth contacting your clinical nurse or someone on your team. They'll either put your mind at rest straight away or suggest they have a look to make sure.

Good evening Elaine, i dont think it would be the return of cancer but if it is causing any concerns then contact someone from your team just to make sure the flap is ok and still healthy. No need to say sorry about your questions its always better to ask and we are only too willing to try and help. Take care.

Hi Elaine, I had a very similar operation to you, sounds like you've already had great advice and now have an appointment sorted so that's great to hear.
It sounds to me like you may have had a bit of trauma to the flap maybe possibly from food or just because it is still bedding in. I'm sure you will be reassured once you see the team again but let us know how you get on and lots of luck with everything

Hi Aneta. Don't know if Elaine is still posting so you may not get a reply from her. I have also had a skin graft from my forearm to cover the hole in the roof of my mouth after my second maxillectomy. Everything went well with no complications just to reassure you. It is now 4 years since my surgery and I am doing fine. Had to adjust to a new diet but everyone is different. Give your husband my best wishes and if there is anything he wants to ask about go ahead. You are an important person and will be invaluable in giving him your support. Look after yourself too as it can be just as difficult for those giving support as it is for the patient.
