Hi all,

Does anyone know what the procedure is to have a Peg Feeder Tube removed, and is it painful?

  • John I've had two, the first was removed in hospital and was completely pain free; the second (last year) was removed in my lounge by a district nurse in minutes, nothing to worry about at all.

Thanks Mikeo, that's really put my mind at ease.

    Thanks to all who replied.

    God bless

  • Yes a stomach peg and like you I was in agony for days after having it fitted so probably why I was nervous about having it removed too but honestly it was quick and painless and was done at my house by a nurse

  • Hi John, hope the PEG helped during your cancer treatment/surgery, agree with MikeO, easy as ABC.

    Thanks Chris,

Yes, it was a lifesaver as I couldn't eat for over 5 weeks and lost over 3 stone.

  • Hi John,

I had my PEG fitted in July 2021 and replaced in October 2021. I finally had it removed two weeks ago. It took all of 10 seconds and I didn't feel a thing. I was a little bit sore for a couple of days after but just wore loose fitting trousers for comfort.

    Best wishes

  • Hi John,

I had peg in stomach too.

It took 5 minutes to remove mine. I opted not to have any sedation. Odd feeling it pulled out and just felt a little bruised the next day.

I'd been anxious too as I struggled when it was first fitted.

Just left with a dimple now 5 months later.

Hope all goes well and please update us when you get scan results.
