Rhinectomy

Hi

I had a full rhinectomy in August followed by a second operation to get to the 5mm margin in one area. No radiotherapy as margins now all good. I’m waiting on my prosthetic. I’m based in south London and had surgery at St George’s. I’m back at work and feeling ok (I can work from home mostly) but still struggling a bit to come to terms with what’s happened and anxious about recurrence. Surgeon is confident he got it all and to try to look positively at the future.  He thinks Im a good candidate for surgical reconstruction but have to wait six months before making any decisions. Anyway, just wanted to connect with others and live to hear your experiences.

  • Good evening B453, well done on getting through the surgery as i know its not easy after these sorts of operations, i have not had this operation but have had reconstruction surgery to my mouth and neck and it takes a while to come to terms with it all. I had my last operation in 2010 and all is going well, of course its always on the back of our minds about it recurring but in time it gets less and less. Six months is a good time period as it allows things to settle down and gives it chance to sink in, i know they can do great things with reconstructive surgery producing great results and there have been others on here who have had the same operation and reconstruction. You can try typing Rhinectomy in the search bar or look at the link Dani has suggested. Wishing you all the best in your recovery and after treatment, take care.
