Good morning, I’m here to find help and guidance from people who have knowledge first hand.
I was diagnosed with sinus cancer in February, April the tumour was removed, then 38 doses of radiotherapy with two of chemotherapy thrown in for good luck.
Now, the treatment knocked me for six, although it’s been 14 weeks since completion I’ve only just finished all the medication. The problem is my throat, I had radiotherapy directly on my neck as I had some very suspicious lymph nodes. As my body has been healing my throat has healed too much and is now smaller than a pea! I can’t swallow and for the past 23 weeks I’ve lived on protein shakes. The support team around me have introduced “broths” to try and get my “swallow” working again, but they don’t know how long it even if it will go back to normal. (To be honest protein shakes for life really isn’t appealing).
This is we’re the advice comes in…I have been told about High Dose Oxygen Therapy. Does anyone have any experience of this treatment?
Thank you in advance.
Hi There
Im not sure if your High Does Oxygen Therapy is the same as my late brother had ( he did not pass away with his cancer ) he had to go into a chamber in Hull for his oxygen therapy, this was to help with his swallowing, and it did help him. Welcome to this forum, I too am recovering from cancer that was under my tonsils. I cannot give you any advice on the radiotherapy as I have not needed it, but there are many wonderful people on here who can give first hand information and support. I wish you well , Debbie
Hi nightsky. I have heard of hyperbaric treatment for osteoradionecrosis but not for radiation fibrosis. Have you had a word with your oncologist? There are folk on here who have to have their oesophagus stretched every now and then and that does seem to help.
There are clinicians at the Marsden, I’m aware, who specialise in RT side effects. You could drop them an email to see if there is somebody there you could get a referral to
Best wishes
Dani
