I just received the news from my oncologist that my 3-month post treatment MRI report showed no signs of cancer. This is obviously great news! But as always afterwards I always realise there are more questions I wish I had asked the doctor. In particular, does the MRI with contrast show up all cancerous cells, or does it only see tumour sized growths? Does anyone here know?
(This question is in part motivated by the fact that I have an angry (red and white) looking area at the back of my throat that is the opposite side to where the original cancer was which it is easy to feel a bit paranoid about, even though I know there's a whole raft of reasons other than new cancer growth that could explain this.)
Hi Alex
That's great news about your MRI. As far as I'm aware they're pretty good at picking up cancer cells.
If I were you I would contact your team if you're concerned about the area at the back of your throat. They really won't mind and would rather you were proactive. My team are always telling me to contact them if I have any concerns.

Hi Alex. Well done on the results.
Modern MRI scanners have a resolution of one mm.
They don’t diagnose cancer ( a biopsy does) but there will be a comparison with your first scan.
If there is anything worrying you then get back to your oncologist. I was always scoped in my early appointments.
