Hi guys

One of my neighbors has taken  radiotherapy 29 out of 33. From today, he is suffering  The amount of sputum, or mucus, is that common side effect please guys?

Thank in advance

  • Not sure how common, but I felt like I was drowning in it. I ended up using a nasal douche to clear it. Get neighbour to check with their CNS what they need to do.

Drinking lots of water, use a humidifier and inhale steam all help.

  • Yes very common. Encourage him to drink lots and maybe use a nebuliser or breathe steam with a towel wrapped round his head. It does go but will be with him for some weeks yet

  • Hi I had awful problems with excess sputum and mucous, I spent nearly two weeks spitting into a bowl until my nurse told me to use steam. Just a bowl of hot water and a towel over my head 5 or 6 times a day made a huge difference and now the problem has just about gone. Best wishes to your neighbour.

What is the means by CNS?

  • Anything soft and slippery. Pasta poached eggs tinned peaches custard ice cream soup( but not tomato). Add cream and butter to everything. You can liquidise most things to make smoothies. Add peanut butter for protein. Banana ice cream and peanut butter are easy
