Hi all my radiotherapy starts on Monday for cancer in my parotid gland. I've been left with facial paulsy following the stretching of the nerves to get to the tumour during the operation.
Thankfully it is slowly improving, they said the cancer is quite rare, has anyone got any experience of it please?
Many thanks
Jay
Hi Jay Welcome to the club we all thought we would never join. Sorry I have no knowledge of it but you can always ask the experts. Have a word with your nurse regarding cream after radiotherapy session which really helps obviously depending on which area is treated. Drink plenty of fluid and walking daily kind of helped me. All the Best on Monday it will fly by Regards Minmax
Hi Jay welcome to our small community group sorry you’re here. If you put parotid cancer in the search bar it May bring some older posts up that might help. I can help eith radiotherapy issues I had 35 sessions for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. It’s hard but doable if I can do it anyone can. Fluid snd nutrition is vital to maintain plus a walk every day if you can does help.
Good luck for Monday. Hazel

Good evening Jay, the only experience i have had is having one removed during my first cancer so i don't really know about the side effects or recovery from it with the radiotherapy, once things settle down you will find that other saliva glands work harder to help keep the mouth moist. So hopefully you will make quite a good recovery in yourself and the saliva glands. Please let us know how it all goes , best wishes.
Chris .
