I know lots of advice has been given already but I am struggling to find it all in 1 place and am frightening myself reading your experiences before I get to those points myself. I was wondering if you could give me advice for what to have ready for when treatment starts. I do know everybodies experience is different but I really want to be prepared as best as I can and have somethings to hand. Thank you.
Hi Marwari
Dont fret too much.
chemo days are long so take lunch when you can eat. Something to do is useful. A book and some music?
Radiotherapy doesn’t have much effect on your throat till the end of week two
Take something loose on top which you need to take off on the treatment table. I had a crop top bra underneath so that I could just slip the straps down
Some people took music to listen to
moisturise your neck from the start. Nothing at all before RT but afterwards I used aloe vera gel in the car on the way home and cetraben through the day. The RT team will give you moisturiser. You can use that instead.
Others will come along with more tips but those are mine for now
Good luck

Hi Marwari,
I had a bag just for going to hospital. Packed it with kindle, book flamigel (cream for neck), spare pain killers, mouth spray, ensure. This meant I didn't have to fret if we got delayed.
Hubbie moved into spare room, so if I was awake in night, popping to loo / taking meds I didn't wake him. I set reminders on my phone to take pain relief on time, rather than waiting until they wore off.
I worse clothes that were easy to remove for quick changes and loose on neck. I'd have a scarf for my neck, to protect it from sun / chilly days.
Do your exercises, they do help. Try and get a bit of fresh air every day.
Most importantly be kind to yourself. Keep popping on with any questions.
Take care, Ronnie
Yes. The spare room is a great idea. I moved into ours when the NG tube went in and I was feeding overnight
