About 6 months post RT, taste had come back quite well but seems to deteriorated in the last few weeks. Tongue may have been a bit burnt by hot food so don’t know if this had an effect. Lymphedema up & down in the heat , not sure what that does if anything. Does taste functuate?
Hi Steve. Taste can fluctuate especially if you thjnk you’ve burnt it ouch Its early days for you , maybe give it a rest for a few days eat bland foods to give tastebuds a chance to come back. The temperature can affect lymphodema are you drinking enough water ?

Can't remember any fluctuations myself Steve but nothing would surpise me, I was about ten months post treatment and still struggling when my consultant told me what I had by then was unlikely to improve, and immediately after it did. I think maybe the psychological effect of accepting how I was helped with the change, I stopped searching for it and it happened.
I'm about seven and a half years post treatment now and I'd call my taste pretty much normal, very nearly back to what it was in 2013. Few things are still not palatable, hot curries and red wine being the most regrettable ones; but I actually get pleasure from food now, which I didn't for a long time. Stick with it.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi Steve
I't's 3 years since my treatment finished and I still find my taste can fluctuate.
I also find that I have to be very mindful while I'm eating as it's very easy for me to cut the inside of my mouth and tongue, burn them or get blood blisters. Do take it easy!
