Hi,
I’d like to start by saying I have not been diagnosed with anything yet but I’ve talked to my doctor and will be scheduled an endoscopy soon.
A brief background: Beginning of the year I started feeling a burn in my throat when I eat spicy or acidic food or drinking cold water. No trouble swallowing and no pain if I eat anything else. I was given omeprazole and told to come back for an endoscopy if that didn’t help. The omeprazole didn’t really help much. But between an ACL surgery and dad being diagnosed with colon cancer, I haven’t gone back to schedule an endoscopy until now.
With my dad’s recent cancer diagnosis, I’ve been terrified of the idea of throat cancer. Not sure if my symptoms point toward that or not (no additional symptoms and existing symptoms have not changed). Hope for some help or comfort here. Thank you
Hi Frankie and welcome to our community. Hoping you don’t stay long. Some people present with a swollen lymph node in their neck and nothing else. That’s the most common presentation. I just found a lump at the back of my tongue. No pain either.
Waiting is hugely stressful I agree, however most referrals aren’t cancer so while I can’t give you a medical opinion I can at least say it’s probably the least likely scenario
Best wishes

Hi Frankie Has Dani say most referrals turn out not to be cancer. I was one if the ones who did. I had no pain swallowing no sore throat only a lump in collar bone. Try not to stress easy to say hard to do.

Hi Frankie
Your doctor is following protocol as any persistent throat pain has to be investigated
First route they take is to check whether it could be acid reflux This is why you got omeprazole If it does not work they often search for some kind of dysplasia (there are many variations) which is typically not a cancer by itself and is treated easily
So try not to worry and do endoscopy as soon as possible
Good luck!
Good evening FrankieUS, your symptoms do not immediately point towards throat cancer but your Dr has gone down the correct route so far trying to rule out any other issues first. I would definitely go for the endoscopy as your Dr suggest as this will give you both an idea if anything is wrong especially with your dads diagnosis as it must be playing on your mind. Im sure your dad will get the best treatment, wishing you both all the best. Take care.
