Thankyou Bob I've had the severe pain for 4 days now and I know if I contact gp they will just tell me to go a&e which I don't want x
This is fairly common I think. Certainly when I had my first one fitted I breezed through the first 36 hours then made to mistake of going to bed without taking any pain meds because it felt fine, woke up in the early hours in all sorts of agony.
What meds are you on? Maybe you need something stronger. It'll soon pass but I don't suppose that's much consolation right now.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Thankyou for your reply im on paracetamol and codeine was hoping to have a bit of a let up before I start my chemo /radiotherapy on Monday x
Those pain killers weren’t enough for me. It really is like being stabbed in the stomach. I would ask for something stronger.
Thankyou for your reply thats exactly how I feel I can't sneeze cough or walk properly x
These stories of people having pain when having a PEG feeding tube seem to be on increase for some reason unless they are not prescribing the correct pain relief. It must be of the way they fit the "ballon type" ones compared to the old "disc type". I have not had any problems with my PEG although since the started fitting the balloon-type ones i have noticed they are not as comfortable and need changing fairly often because with me it reacts with the stomach lining causing irritation, so i just get the nurse to come around to my home and change it every 3 to 4 months, yet the old type lasted 18 months to two years but have to be changed in hospital, swings, and roundabouts . Hope you manage to get the pain sorted as it will make you feel a lot better, sorry for waffling on, all the best, take care.
Chris.
Sorry you've had the pain, have you managed to get anything stronger? Much like other responses, I was ok for a couple of days and then in agony. Had to go to A&E, was checked over and given codeine which worked for me. It eased pretty quickly then. Didn't help me get used to it, but bear with it. Many of us have relied on then later in treatment/ first weeks of recovery. Hardly notice mine now.
Hope all goes well with treatment this week.
Ronnie
