Had a tooth out 10 days ago, 4 months post RT. Still very swollen around extraction. I know it will take longer to heal but anyone got an ideas how long it will take? Dr Google says a few weeks but don’t know what to believe.
I had a wisdom tooth out after RT and it was a month before the gum had healed. If you have pain still it might be a good idea to contact the dental hospital. I'm presuming the dental hospital did the extraction.
Are you still on antibiotics and using something like corsodyl?

Hi Steve C38, i have not had a tooth removed so soon after radiotherapy so it could be the reason why its taking so long to heal up but it could also be slightly infected so i would advise you to speak to the person who removed the tooth and if it was a dentist was it approved by your consultant as i know some dentist are wary about tooth extraction in an area that has been zapped with radiotherapy. I would try and steer clear of Dr google. I have had 3 teeth removed just recently and had no problems with recovery but my radiotherapy was back in 2008. All the best .

Just finished antibiotics. Using warm salt water & Diflam. Not really sore but swollen. Maxfax reg did the extraction, my own dentist checked me a few days ago & said it looked ok but how long it may take, no one wants to say. They told me I defo will get ORN which I was a bit shocked at.
Blimey...that's a bit of a miserable thing to say
Was the extraction right in the line of the beam? Top or bottom jaw?
Has your Maxfac put you on pentoxifylline?VitE? It's supposed to drastically reduce the chance of ORN?
Theres a thread on it somewhere
EDIT ....yes here ORN

Hi That’s a bit of a drastic quote to leave you with. I hope you don’t get ORN and your gum heals soon
