Hi everyone, I'm not very good with tech, and I've never really done any web chats, embarrassing for a 42 year old I know but bear with me!

I have been diagnosed with a snuc during lockdown that has spread to the lymph nodes in my neck and also into the brain cavity. I have had 2 rounds of chemotherapy so far and I am due to start a combined chemo and radiotherapy treatment on the 13th July. It will be radiotherapy 5 days a week for 6weeks and chemotherapy once a week during those 6 weeks.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar treatment in a similar area and could offer me a bit of advice about what to expect, I've been told it probably will be quite hard going but any helpful advice or pointers would be really appreciated.

  • Well done Alex and thanks for the update.

Best wishes for a good recovery and the scan.

  • Hi Chippy, hope you are well. I've added an update to you, Lollie and Warrior girl but not sure if I have done it right. How are doing?

  • Hi Alex!! Alex so sorry, the Macmillan activity emails keep going into my spam for some reason, I've just checked my spam and saw ur message!

I'm so glad to hear the op is over u, it sounds horrendous, I'm sure u were absolutely petrified... I thought about u every day and wondered how u were so im really pleased to hear from u! I think they would've had to have knocked me out the day before otherwise I mightve done a bunk out the window... so brave of u Alex, u faced it and its behind u now.

I hope u are relaxing and getting well looked after Hearts️

  • Hi Alex

Happy to hear that the op is now behind you.  I hope you're able to focus on healing for the next 8 weeks.

  • Hi Dee,  yes if I could have run away from the Theatre doors then I would have and it did cross my mind but I thought if I don't do this then the Tumour is winning and will eventually destroy me.

It's been 4 weeks next week, I'm still very tired and sore, haven't had as much help as I would have liked but I manage to walk my dog (second week) a short way and then slept a d prayed I didn't get any infection etc.

They have said the tumour showed clear margins, which is great but because it's  grade 2, they recommend Radiotherapy, so should start that soon, hopefully.

Thanks for thinking about me and I hope you are well. X

  • Thanks Lollie, that was without a doubt the most terrifying experience to date for me, it's 4 weeks since I walked the the Theatre doors, (something I'll never forget)  I'm starting Radiotherapy soon, not sure how many sessions etc but they want to give it just incase any cancerous cells remain, the tumour had clear margins, so that's good.

    How are you doing?x

  • Hi Alex

I had scans done last week which showed no signs of lymphoma and the lesion on my lung continues to shrink.

The report for those scans will be available tomorrow.  From what my haematologist said, it sounds like there may be an area of damage from the SBRT, but I won't know whether that's significant until I hear from my radiation oncologist in a couple of weeks.

I have a lung function test this coming week, which I'm not looking forward to.  I'm also due for a mammogram and a colonoscopy this year, so it seems neverending sometimes.

  • Oh bless you. Try and stay strong and positive. You are doing well when you think what you've had to face. Think about  each day or test at a time. Fingers crossed, I will be thinking about you.
