Hello All

Last May I was diagnosed with SCC of the Epiglottis, had 2 lots of Laser Resection and got clear margins.  Thought great that wasn't too bad I have beaten Cancer...….

Well check up in January not too bad said the stump was slightly raised come back in 5 weeks instead of six.  Two weeks later I developed a lump on my top lip.  Saw my dermatologist and he said you need to see maxilla facial I am certain this is a SCC.  So I bought forward my check up by a week and they called Maxillo facial in.  By now lump had grown, they did a biopsy same week and it is cancerous.  At the same time a new growth was noticed on my Epiglottis, so was referred for biopsy.  While this has been going on Respitory have been watching a couple of lung nodules.  So I have a possible 3 sites of Cancer.  Been to MDT today and Radiotherapy is the treatment for my lip.  Biopsy still needs to be done on Epiglottis, but Pre op would not clear me for surgery until I get results of latest lung scan also done today.  I feel like I am going round in circles waiting for someone to make the first move and no one can tell me if I have a secondary on the lip from the Epiglottis or a new primary I am getting so confused with what is going on.  I was trying to ask questions today and the Radiotherapist consultant said we have to get started or opt for Chemo for palliative care.  Are you all confused yet because I am.  So then the dentist arrived and thank god I have good teeth so no delays to start of Radiotherapy as the lip tumor is still growing and too large for surgery that might leave me with something resembling a face.  Was warned that it will be very painful because of nerve ending etc.  It is already so not sure how I am going to cope with even more pain and struggling to get any food in my mouth already and drinking through a straw so HELP...

  • Oh Mo.  I had to smile that you're putting your nurse at ease.  Somewhat ironic!

    Hope the scans go well.

  • Hello All

Been cage fighting again yesterday, think i lost this time as a bit of a mess.  They have had to remove a large portion of my left nostril and top of lip this time with skin flaps moved from surgery 5 weeks ago again so pretty sorely and swollen today.  Lip looks like Elvis presley so will have to learn to sing.  Oh well keep taking the drugs.  They are referring me to a skin specialist, who will look at what is causing these, think genetics are going to be checked so I might have been correct in my research ramblings.  Also had Pet Scan on Monday and waiting for results after lung team MDT to see if SABR is the way forward with that.  There is a lot of staff on first name terms with me now I am there so much lol.  Crohns doc wants to put me on Methotrexate but for now I have said he can put them where he puts his colonoscopy camera, I have had 18 months of hell thanks to them.  Anyway got to go give Sherman a rendition of you aint nothing but a hound dog, take care all

    Love Mo

  • Despite the trauma of what you are going through your post did make me smile this morning - Thank you!

I hope the PET scan results are good and they can (between what sounds like a whole hospital full of consultants) get you on the right pathways.

  • Hi Mo. At least Sherman will be able to sing along with you Wink

Best of luck with the rest of the treatment and tests. It’s just as well that patients can be so well informed these days. The experts sometimes can’t see the wood for the trees.

  • Hello Again all

Just had the phone call that no one wants to receive.  I got bright lights on the pet scan.  They now want to do lung surgery but need to speak to the surgeons once I have my appointment should be next week.  Left one that was growing is very active and the right one is also lit up but not grown.  Not the best news.  Meantime i am sat here looking like i have been hit by a shovel from Wednesdays surgery.  Decided that the hospital has been playing @whack a Mo'le with me for the past 18 months, everytime i get my head above the parapet some medic gives it a whack, lol.  Anyway in a bit of shock at the moment.

  • Hello Mo,

I’m sure you must be feeling quite numb with yet more bad news. So sorry you’re going through such a horrible time. We’ll all be rooting for you with the next phase.
    Keep up the positivity.

    Best wishes to you
