Hi all just finished 8 chemo and 30 radiotherapy my neck is very sore and itchy looks like it will break how does everyone wash this area it's so sensitive apart from applying cream no one has told me how I should clean /wash it now any advice would be great.
Hi Bradlou
My hubby had very similar treatment to you. He had both sides of neck treated so it was very sore. He used the Simple moisturising face wash for sensitive skin. He applied it with his hands (no face cloth) and rinsed off the same way very gently patting it dry.
I would tell your CNS or your MDT about the itchiness. It may or may not be anything. Hubby's skin started to desquamate within a week of ending treatment but it carried on for 2-3 weeks. At one point a couple of areas looked swollen as though it was going to blister but it didn't.
His MDT was amazed at how well his skin was but we had been using a product called 'Itchy Skin Oil' by a company called Beauty Despite Cancer. You can find it on the internet. It is formulated for use after radiotherapy treatment. Hubby used it from week 2 of his treatment right through to the present. He is almost eight weeks after treatment.
We do not have any connection to this company - I found it after doing searches as the product that was prescribed at the hospital caused quite a reaction.
Hope this helps.
Hi Bradlou, well done for getting through the radio and chemo, i did have slight soreness but nothing to worry about, a lovey informative post from BrandyGirl, All i would say is be very careful with the sore area as you can cause infection, i dont think i cleaned that area as such but as said in the previous post a gentle dabbing should be ok so you don't break the skin . I know what you mean by the itchiness as i had that, i think it's just the new skin healing and the old flaking away. You could ask one of your team to see what is available for this or the Oncologist department. Best wishes and hope all goes well.

Hi Bradlou
Great that you've got through to the end
My neck was at it's worse at the end of radio and really didn't deteriorate after that.
It too was sore and itchy and a little flaky but it never actually broke out
I just dabbed it in the bath and used Aloe Vera gel or Diprobase...though the latter is a bit heavy and greasy, just went easy with it.
It's taken nine months to get on top of the slight lymphodaema that followed so I religiously massaged my neck whenever I could remember. I haven't done it in over a week and it looks fine...well as fine as a scraggy 68 year old!

Only just noticed your blog Beesuit. Very good read, lovely looking camper as well! I've actually recently posted a new entry on mine (link in my signature below) after a five year gap basically with a few pictures from recent times that may never have happened if I'd not seen the doc all those years back.
Back on subject I don't think I really did much other than dab my neck gently with warm water and then smother myself with cream, good advice here.
