Hi,
Just a quick post to check if anyone has experienced something similar to what seems to be an unusual illness.
I'm currently awaiting a biopsy (ultrasound guided tru-cut) for a mass in my parotid gland. I had two of these masses appear rapidly and synchronously approx. 2.5 months ago, one on each parotid gland, just below my ear, at the angle of my jaw. They are hard, fixed, roughly ovoid, painless and perhaps one inch in diameter.
This past few days I have developed a further solid mass, approx. the size of a marble in my left cheek. And just today, I have checked my right cheek and found a similar lump in my right cheek, about the size of a ball bearing.
I'm not panicking, and I'm generally easy going with medical issues, however these recent discoveries have admittedly made me a little anxious. The spread seems very rapid.
I don't have any lymphoma symptoms like night sweats, tiredness, itching etc.
I know I should wait for my biopsy and then the results from it, but if anyone has any thoughts or similar experiences, please let me know.
I hope everyone on here is well and happy :)
Thanks,
Daniel
Hi Daniel , it does seem weird that these lumps have appeared in the last few days and im not sure if they are linked , sometimes lumps appear for no reason then disappear and don't return . I still have a lump in my neck that was checked and come back all clear so I have just left it as it is not visible and does not give me any hassle. Hopefully the results will give your consultant some guidance into what the lumps are in your parotid gland . Hope all goes well with the results of the ultra sound , take care .
Chris
Hi Daniel, I had several lumps in both parotid glands. I started off with just one on the one side, just below my ear. Then another appeared on my cheek. By the time I was seen at the hospital a lump had appeared on the other side. I had ultrasound guided fine needle biopsy. It turned out they were Warthin tumours and all benign. I had an operation on one side to remove them followed by another op a few months later on the other side. There were 5 tumours on one side and 4 on the other. Warthin tumours are usually benign. I'm not saying that's what you have, you'll have to wait to see what yours turn out to be but your description sounded so much like my lumps I just had to reply. Good luck and hope all goes well.
Forgot to say that warthins can often be bi-lateral (appear both sides).
Hi Maggie, thank you so much for taking the time to write out this post to me, very kind of you :)
Warthin's tumours had been on my radar but from my research it seemed very unlikely for them to appear at the same time.
From what you have said however, my symptoms do seem extremely similar to yours, especially the fact that there are multiple lumps, including in the cheek.
I was getting anxious but this gives me something to focus on whilst I wait for the biopsy and results, it's really eased my mind already!
I'm glad yours were identified and removed safely, I hope you have had no other side effects with your salivary system following the ops?
Best regards and thank you again!
Daniel
Hi Daniel, Warthins are supposed to be slow growing but mine weren't so it really bothered me. I've had no problems since having the glands removed, there are other glands that compensate thankfully. They were lengthy operations because they have to avoid the facial nerves but I had a brilliant surgeon. I hope you're not waiting too long for your biopsies
All the best and please let us know how you get on.
Maggie
Hi Maggie,
Very happy to hear you had no problems after the gland removal, and I did read about the facial nerve complications so I'm glad you had a good surgeon!
Just wanted to say another thank you for the messages, I barely thought about the lumps this weekend which was a relief.
My biopsy will be tomorrow, hopefully it won't be too long of a wait for the results.
I'll message when I know more.
Have a great day.
Thanks,
Daniel

Quick update.
I went for my biopsy appointment yesterday, feeling very happy to be closer to some answers.
The doctor took a quick look at my neck and salivary glands via ultrasound and told me the masses are clearly sialadenitis, but then refused to carry out the biopsy as 'they are too small'. This seemed odd as the primary masses are a good inch across, but she's the professional.
She told me to go back to the haematologist. I explained I've had 16 blood tests already, but she said they'll do some more.
Very disheartened but I feel if they were truly concerned it was something more sinister I'd have seen an ENT specialist by now.
So I'm thankful for that. Will keep this updated in the hope it helps someone in a similar position in the future.
