I am a 27 year old female. I can am having trouble swallowing and have had what feels like a lump in my throat for about 8 weeks. Ive been to the doctor and they think it's Globus sensation due to acid reflux and anxiety. Im am very worried as i have had other symptoms aswell which i dont think globus sensation would cause such as
Headaches for about 2 weeks, ringing in my ears, burning throat, aches in my shoulder blades and arms, extream fatigue, Coughing, blurry vision( not all the time), very dry eyes, itchy neck and memory loss. Both my parents died from cancer and i am very worried that my symptoms are not something or nothing. Please can any body help or had any of these symptoms themselves?
Thank you
Hi Laura
I'm sorry to hear you're suffering so much discomfort at the moment and can understand your worries.
I was diagnosed with cancer in May 2018. I had been suffering with hoarseness and a strange feeling in my throat which I knew wasn't a conventional sore throat. After 3 weeks I saw my GP who prescribed antibiotics for a throat infection. 2 weeks later, still with the same symptoms, I saw a different GP who sent me for an xray. I was not confident with the diagnosis from either GP so I saw an ENT specialist who carried out a nasoendoscopic inspection and found a lump in my throat. As a result of this he immediately fast-tracked me through the NHS for further tests at the hospital where it was confirmed as cancer.
In my case my symptoms were not the usual ones GPs look for when doing an examination. I had no lump that could be felt externally or ear ache.
Many of the symptoms you're describing could be attributed to globus sensation. Certainly coughing and a sore throat together with what feels like a lump in the throat. However if you're really concerned and feel further examination is warranted then I would either ask your GP to refer you to ENT or pay to see someone privately. At least then you should get confirmation of what's causing your issues and be in a position to sort them out.
I wish you all the best Laura.
Linda
Hello Laura
Is your doctor going to send you for further test ?
You mention a lot of symptoms that could well be what your doctor thinks it is .
My husband had a sore throat ,trouble swallowing and painful when eating ,change in his voice , lump in his throat and earache and unfortunately was diagnosed with throat cancer but none of the other symptoms you mention so please don't think the worse.
Go back to your gp and ask to be referred to ent unless he as done this already
Good luck
Jenny
Hello Laura, the only syptoms i had was a loss of appetite and weight, anxiety can cause a lot of problems or symptoms so the sooner these symptoms are looked into the better. A lot of your symptoms do not tie in with most head and neck cancers so perhaps your Dr is right ,but because you are not reassured by him/her then i would ask to be referred to an E.N.T or Maxillofacial consultant for futher examination or tests a.s.a.p just so your no either way if it is anything sinister . Wishing you all the best ,take care .

Yes im going back on tuesday to see the ENT specialist again xx
I'm pleased to hear that Laura.
Hopefully you'll have more of an idea of what's going on once you've seen the specialist.
Best of luck and do let us know.

I have been referred for an MRI scan as the lump feels like its getting bigger and food is coming back up. I have aslo just started feeling numb tingling feeling in legs and toes? My headaches have stopped but earache has got worse but is only on one side. I also have a couple of small ulcers in my mouth. Csn anybody help please xxx
Hi Laura I too had the same as what You are describing I went to ent n then I had some biopsies taken which confirmed I had early stages larynx cancer but I too had ear ache on one side also ulcers in my mouth .the mri will certainly diagnose everything for you. I know this is not much help at the minute I only found out 8weeks ago so all new to this too .
Please try and not to worry to you find out anything and fingers crossed all will be ok
Kind regards
Hi Laura
I've just discovered my thyroid is abnormal after my radiotherapy treatment and all the symptoms you've described can be attributable to an underactive thyroid including difficulty swallowing/feeling of lump in the throat and problems with the ears.
Hope that's helpful and sorry to have found this information a bit late.
All the best
Linda
