Hello I’m new to this community. My husband was diagnosed with lower oesophageal cancer stage 3 in May. It was an endoscopy that found it and since it’s been ct scan, surgeon appointment, aesthetic, dietician pet scan and a laparoscopy. We ar still unsure of the plan but have the oncologist next week. My husband won’t eat as he says makes him sick and full up , he is just surviving on a soup here and there and the amyes shakes 6 per day, he has lost 5 stone since May . I can tell what’s going on but he just says he is ok and isn’t giving up! I have read lots of your stories and my heart aches for you all

  • Hi,

It sounds like your husband has had all the tests necessary for his medical team to devise a plan of action. If there has been no spread, then this is likely to be chemo-surgery-chemo. Other treatments such as radiotherapy and immunotherapy are also available. Hopefully you will find out the treatment plan soon. Once you know, then it just becomes a matter of following the program. Whatever course of treatment he follows, it is going to be tough. On both of you. Keeping his strength up is vital to getting through it. Once you have a treatment plan then it will be easier for others on here to offer advice.

  • Thank you I really appreciate the message

  • I'll just really echo what Cool Blue has said above:

    • Things will be lot clearer when you get the treatment plan.
    • For now, it is very important for your husband to keep his strength up - so please encourage him to eat, and to try to limit the weight loss.

Whatever the treatment is, it will be tough to take. But the general approach is that treatment is only given to those who are considered fit enough to cope with it.

Keep going, be strong - and very best wishes to you both!
