  • I have been under the care of an amazing team at Christie Hospital for over 4 years and had my oesophagus cancer surgery by an excellent team at Salford Royal Hospital.
  • I've had more of my share of ups and downs over the past 4 years but my wife who has been a great support suggested that I post an optimistic message on here to confirm that I have come through the journey pretty well and can confirm that expert medical advice and as positive an attitude as possible can mean life can go on successfully!
  • I will be 79 in 2 weeks so I'm never going to be a spring chicken ever again but I get out and about every day for a gentle walk and some fresh air. There is no doubt that getting out in the fresh air plays a vital part in  refreshing your mind and spirit as it helps to maintain a sense of perspective and stops you from drawing inwards and becoming negative.
  • Long rambling introduction to the group I'm afraid...But hope my "positive news" may reassure others facing this treatment or surgery that you can get on with life afterwards!
  • Hi

My husband had his chemotherapy at The Christie and he is still under the care of his wonderful medical team at Salford Royal Hospital .He will be three years post surgery on the 14th December and three years post treatment in March .He is now 67 .

As you’ve said lots of ups and downs over the last three years but a positive mindset does help massively. Life may be different but thankfully it goes on regardless .

    Long May it continue !

    Best wishes

  • Thanks for that uplifting message. My husband has only just been diagnosed and has only had a CT scan and biopsy. So very early days. He is 76 and pretty fit though is currently in remission with CLL so what impact that will have on this , who knows. I’m hanging on to every positive story like yours that adds a smidgin of hope. Trying not to yo yo from hope to despair. My thoughts and best wishes are with anyone in the same situation.
