Hi everyone. I am new to the forum although I did post last week.
My mum has recently been diagnosed with a lesion on her oesophagus and a had a stent fitted and we are now pretty much in the dark. She was discharged from the hospital on Thursday with a discharge letter that advised she had hospital acquired pneumonia although the hospital advised us she was on antibiotics for a chest infection. She is struggling to eat, even soft foods although she is drinking plenty and is using dioralyte to ensure she is hydrated.
I feel I am getting frustrated as I have no idea what comes next, how best to help or where to turn to. I have also lost my dad and sister to cancer and I am not sure I am strong enough to go through it all again
Hi Lisa2210, I’m Tony one of the Community Champions, so sorry to hear about your Mum and her problems, your message is a little muddled to see the sequence of events, was your Mum having the stent fitted in hospital and contracted the chest infection at that time or the stent was already in pace and she was admitted with the chest infection?
If both happened at the same time then she must have information from the Hospital’s cancer care service normally a telephone number for OS Specialist Nurses who you can contact, as for food intake then they need to be told as she will go downhill very rapidly, she should be on liquid food supplements that would be supplied via free prescription.
If all fails then speak urgently with her GP- sounds as if paperwork is missing when she was discharged or if it’s two separate conditions/treatments then other paperwork os around
Hope you get things sorted, take care Tony
