Hi all , I'm 49 have had four chemos and due to have surgery then four more chemo, I was told surgery would be 4-6 weeks after my last chemo probably 5 weeks my doctor said, now I'm given a date after hearing nothing and having to chase them up that my surgery will be 9 weeks and two days after my last chemo ..is this normal? I was told it's still in the surgery window , perhaps I'm just nervous , ok I am nervous lol lost my mum to this five years ago but I know every ones journey is different , still can't believe this is happening
Hi Priceyone. Your programme should be being co-ordinated by the Specialist Nurse Practioner for Upper GI so I would suggest you discuss the issue of timing with them. I had my surgery about 10 weeks after my last chemo but I was on a different regime ( 5 chemos 23 radios) to you. I had actually delayed the surgery slightly but they were happy with the timeframe. Of course you are nervous - it has been a daunting prospect for all of us who have trod this path. I hope all goes well for you and please come back if you have further questions.
Yes I was 8 weeks between FLOT chemo ending and my surgery and all was fine ! It hadn’t spread in that time which was my worry !
Hi
Yes it sounds normal .My husband had his surgery almost nine weeks after the end of his fourth chemo cycle .He was told eight to ten weeks is the usual optimum time .I don’t know if this is for everyone but it was in his case .
He had no issues during this time and made the most of it by eating as much as he could ( the chemo shrunk the tumour successfully ) to build himself up for the surgery .
Hope all goes well for you
Best wishes
J
I had my surgery just 4 weeks after my final FLOT. I didn’t feel quite recovered from chemo when they were wheeling me into theatre and, to be honest, would’ve liked a couple of extra weeks to recover but I had decided at the beginning that I would take the earliest available appointment for any treatment I was offered so I hustled went with it
