Hi..my husband has 2 more cycles of chemo then he goes into an operation....just the two of us at home, and as time moves on I am very nervous about the op and how he will handle it, and then how he will readjust afterwards.   II would really welcome any comments that could give me an insight as to how the op works out.   I feel that to be fore warned is fore armed..

  • If you have a look through past threads on this forum there is a wealth of information and discussion around post op experiences. Everyone is different and length/ease of recovery will depend on many factors. My husband is week three post op and recovering quite well. Improving his fitness before the op helped him tremendously. Your husband will be in ICU immediately after the op so be prepared for many tubes ….. care in ICU was fantastic!

  • I had my op on the 24th of September and was discharged after 11 days without any complications. I got myself as fit and fat as I possibly could before it and that was crucial as it's a brutal operation. I've lost quite a bit of weight in the last few months and now trying to eat a high protein/high fat diet. Pork scratchings are my "go to" snack as they have both and I love them which helps!

  • we are on the same situation,  my husband has his 3rd flot chemo next week, then like you guys after the 4thcthe operation. I'm just taking it a week at a time then I'll worry about the op. Once he's coped with the chemo then I'll try and help him get as fit as possible xx

  • Don't forget the weight bit too, being fit will help with the actual operation and recover time but he'll definitely need extra weight too because it will drop off him post op and then again post chemo

  • I'm hoping to fatten him up once the chemo finished, I make sure he ears regularly now but nowhere near the amounts he used too. So hoping once the sickness goes and the cancers shrunk it will come back more. Forcing protein drinks down, he would love them cold but that's off the menu. Room temp only
