Hi there, just wanted to say hello. Am currently caring my my mum who has Stage 3 GOJ and hasn’t been able to eat or drink anything orally for 6 months now and is fed by a stomach tube. Just wondered if anyone else was in the same boat and had any advice about supporting someone through FLOT who can’t eat at all? It seems like life has very few pleasures for her at the moment and it’s hard to find things to do that she is capable of that don’t revolve around cafes or food.
thanks in advance
Nancy
Hi Nancy
yes im in the same situation not been able to eat anything since last August being fed through a jej can’t even keep water down have had my first session of FLOT not feeing too bad at the moment but know it will build !
you don’t realise how much we take eating and drinking for granted until you can’t do it and especially at this time of year when food is all around! So many social situations are centred around food going out for lunch popping for a coffee etc it really is an anti social cancer. But I try not to let it get me down and remain positive that this time next year will be different I know I will never eat and drink the same as before but will just be happy if I could sit and eat something with my husband fortunately he is happy to cook for himself but says he feels bad if he’s eating and I’m not.
Before this I was very active I Bowled three times a week swam sung in a choir did Pilates and yoga and now due to the fact that I keep bringing up large amounts of foam / saliva can’t do any of that so I really don’t know what to suggest for your mom but it’s good to know your supportive and you will find a lot of people on this site with the same problem be it at different stages.
Sending love and let her know she’s not alone as I think because its not a common cancer it makes you feel you are
