I posted here about two months ago about my brother.
Sadly the cancer has spread to his spine, he is now under palliative care and the upper GI specialist nurse confirmed to me today he only has weeks to live now. I just knew this was the case. He wants to fight but he has had nothing but glucose, saline and pain relief for two weeks now. They keep promising to get an NG tube in but there is excuse after excuse. We lost our sister to ovarian cancer 8 months ago. I feel lost but have to be strong to help him fight this - he is determined - and to support my sister in law. He should have retired beginning of August but he was in hospital on his birthday and they medically retired him a few weeks ago.I visited that weekend and am visiting again this week - I live about 200 miles away.
I want to thank those of you who gave me some useful advice when I first posted and to wish you all the very best.
Hi Artemisia
Just to say how so sorry I am to hear about your brother .Life can be so cruel .This is a truly awful disease …Whilst supporting my husband who is still living with treatment issues and consequences from his own oesophageal cancer experience 18 months ago, I’ve also just recently lost my Dad to this disease in seven short weeks from diagnosis to him passing away !
I honestly feel your pain…I’ve compared the feeling to being on the biggest rollercoaster ever .
Thoughts are with your brother and sending a virtual hug to you
regards J
Thank you. I am so sorry to hear about your father. It is indeed a cruel disease.
We have had a small victory in that he now has his NG tube (fitted yesterday) so can now take in some nutrition. I had to bypass the usual complaint process and involve his local MP to get things moving. He is as bloody-minded as I am and I know he will not give up easily, but equally I don't want him to suffer.
I wish you and your husband all the very best and hope for you both at least for a while you are on the level bit of the rollercoaster. X
I'm so sorry to read this. My heart goes out to you x
My thoughts are with you now at this really tough time, I hope you have some support around you.
My sincere condolences .
