Hello,
i hope you are all as well as you can be.
Here is my cancer story .
Referred myself to my GP in Nov 23 with what felt like perpetual trapped wind at the top of my stomach and some sharp pain after hot drinks or alcohol.
Got blood tests , chest Xray and a endoscope & colonoscope at the start of January. Bad news as the endiscope showed a cancerous mass at the bottom of my gullet , but no resistance to scope going in and I have no issue swallowing.
Had a CT scan a few hours later , which showed cancer and surrounding lymph nodes were swollen.
PET scan two week later and an invite to meet with consultant surgeon , recomended key hole exploration. This showed that cancer was about 2cm and on the valve to stomach and nodes were 3/3 affected.
biopsies taken and met with surgeon and offered rucuperative surgery after 4 rounds of chemo and 6 weeks rest.
So whilst I’m in the age bracket for OG cancer , had reflux and drank alcohol( stopped before the endo scan) I’m fit enough for surgery and I am deeply thankful for this .
we now know a few things.
- the NHS have been fantastic as has our MacMillan Nurse.
- Tell every medic we meet a brief history.
- I will take all the professional advice and help going.
- we did a lot of crying and sorting out within the first few days .
- Cancer is always too soon…
Hi Shimmie and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you've been diagnosed with cancer but thanks for taking the time to share your story so far as I'm sure others coming along will find it useful.

Wishing you all the best with your treatment
Thanks Latchbrook ,
appreciated and thanks for the info.
Hi Shimmie
I am sorry to read of your diagnosis, and to see that there were not too many responses to your post, have you been given any further tests or treatment since you posted?
I hope you are coping, as you say, cancer is always too soon and the crying is inevitable

Wow you must be in a very good area to have had your endoscopy and CT scan all on the same day! I thought my experience was good but that's phenomenal! Good luck with your treatment/operation!
