Hello. I’m new here. My grandpa has just been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. He currently can’t eat any solid food. He is in a full liquid diet. We’ve been told it has been growing for a while due to the size. He had a CT scan yesterday to see if the cancer has spread at all but we have been told it will be 3 weeks before results and it’s all due on that scan on what treatment will be available to him. I’m absolutely heartbroken. He is like my dad. He’s also been so healthy too so it’s been such a shock. I don’t know what to expect at all.
Hi GemmaL
Sorry to hear about your grandpa.
I'd advise you also ask for PET scan. CTs don't show everything, different scans look for different parts. My partner had the same type of cancer, his CTs showed clear for no spread, after a PET it showed significant spread to his bones/skeleton. I don't mean to frighten you but we thought it was good after the CT only for everything to come crashing down after the PET a week later. Thought id share so hopefully u can ask for what u need for a full clear picture to avoid anything being missed. Sending strength to u and your grandpa x
