Hi just joined the group. My husband had a CT scan on 6th October and an endoscopy the following day resulted in a diagnosis of oesophagus cancer. A week later the results of biopsies showed the cancer had already spread in lungs and liver so an operation was ruled out. 4 days before starting chemo he was rushed into hospital with infection which then caused kidney failure.  He has been in hospital 2 1/2 weeks and also developed a blood clot in his lung. Everything has been stabilised and I am waiting delivery of a hospital bed and commode so that he can come home.  We have been told he is now too weak to have chemo so we are totally devastated that he won't have long. He has only been retired for 3 months and I retired literally the week before the diagnosis so it feels so cruel that our retirement together has been snatched away.

Sorry for long post just needed to reach out.

  • Hi Suet69

Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry that you have both been given this devastating news, and that your husband has experienced major set-backs which has taken away the possiblity of chemo for him at this time.

Has any other treatment been considered?

Is your husband able to eat anything at this time?

I fully understand that you mention he is too weak for chemo but I am trying to determine whether there is any way to build up his fitness to possibly turn around that decision for treatment .

I really do feel for you and I hope that somehow something becomes available to help him with this.

Please call the Macmillan team on the number in my signature if you need any support or guidance at this time.
