Hello everyone, brand new newbie here...

Looking for some chat and advice really, my dad was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer back in March '22 and has had a bit of a rough time with it.

He started on the Chemo to try and shrink the tumour pre surgery, but it seems his body didn't like it and only had 3 sessions with a hospital stay for renal failure in the middle.

He also didn't do so well with his pre surgery fitness tests, but the surgeons said they're "happy" to go ahead with the surgery if he wanted but he is very much classed as a high-risk patient.

We've also been and had an information appointment about back up options, which were: a stent fitted with no intervention, Only Radiotherapy or Chemoradiotherapy.

And now my dad has until Tuesday to make a decision about what to do but wants to discuss it with family. He looks very much like a lost little boy which is strange for someone of 68.

I understand its very much his decision only to make but just wondered what people's experiences were of the different options or if anyone has been or is in a similar situation.

He is currently at T3 N0 M0 - Which I think is stage 3 cancer but correct me if im wrong. He also already has an NG tube and really hasnt been able to swallow anything properly since May-ish..

Thank you in advance :) Benny x

  • Hi Benny

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis. It's very scary.  From his staging at least it hasn't spread. Have they thought about immunotherapy?

I hope it goes as well as it can.

    Take care
