Hi everyone I hope that you are all keeping as well as can be . Just a bit of advice please. My mom was diagnosed with stage 3 osephagus squamous cell cancer in August 2021.  Since diagnosis she has lost nearly 3 stone in weight.  On January 1st a stent was fitted to widen her osephagus.  Her sickness still didn't stop . She was then put on an NJ feeding tube during the night which at first helped then her weight dropped again and it was removed a week ago .The pain from the stent is really bad and we are administering 3ml morphine and paracetamol during the day and night.   She also has morphine patches.  Mostly we are struggling on her diet. She is vegetarian and doesn't eat eggs or fish. We have been giving her soups, weetabix, a fortisip a day and a desert and 2 hot drinks. This is all she can manage.  The nurse has told us not give her soup as it could be causing the pain due to acid buildup. Can someone please advise help me  as we are really struggling and dont know much about this cancer

  • Hey ginger,

Have a read of my profile I had a lot of problems eating at the start and struggled even with soup. If she handles the forsips well maybe have more than one a day. When I was at my worst I was having 2 or 3.

A juicing machine is great I recommend juicing 2 apples, carrots, cucumber and celery it makes a nice alkaline juice.

Avoid tomato based foods, caffeine and alchol. If she loves her tea/coffee switch to decaf you can hardly tell the difference. There are good books on the gerd diet which may help just obliterated everything with blender.
