Hi .    My dad was diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer in September.   He’s 81 years old and lives with my mum next door to us .

One days he’s in pain and  being sick . But then the next he seams ok .

its really hard especially for my mum,   We are all trying our best to help .

  • Hey coco, really sorry to hear the news. Remember Macmillan are on the end of the phone if you need to speak to someone, this is a difficult time for you and the family. What is making him feel sick is it eating or just in general? If eating what is his diet like at the moment?

Hi . Yes Macmillan and the care team have been really good . They have just upped his  medications for the pain so it could be that that making him sick .  My mums a feeder when it comes to food so we have had to tell her to cut it right back which is hard .

he was diagnosed in September and the cancer is so far now there’s no treatment available, so it’s a case of making him comfortable now .

the hospital have admitted they made a big mistake 3 years ago when the cancer was first noticed “they didn’t follow it up and now it’s spread into bones ,so it’s so sad .

  • Really sorry to hear your news. I had major issues eating at first I shared everything I have learnt in my profile. The fresubin protien drinks are amazing and surprisingly tasty if eating is stressful it's an easy way to get your calories his calories in which you can get from the Dr's. If he's eating OK stuff like trifles I have seen others post on here are really good.

It sounds like he has a loving family, try to enjoy life as much as you can and live life to the fullest. My boss at works dad is 88 and was told 8 years ago he had 3 months to live and is still enjoying life as much as he can. Living with cancer is still living and even when feeling crappy feeling loved and spending time with family means the world.
