I was diagnosed on September 10th. Since then I've had the usual ct scan and petscan. I saw my oncologist and due to my heart condition and lung problems they have said is all i can have is palliative radiotherapy which is for 10 days.

I'm stage3 and 1 lymph node effected. They have given me 6 to 12 months. I have been totally shocked by this decision and angry that they won't help me.

  • Hello Waynetta

Welcome to the forum, I know you would prefer not to be here, but it is a great place to find support.

I can fully understand why you would feel shocked and angry after being diagnosed in September with OC and then being told that there is only palliative treatment in the form of 10 days radiotherapy available to you and that your prognosis at this time is 6 -12 months. There is nothing in the information that you have received to fill you with anything else.

And I know that it seems easy for me to say "Try to find your positive", but I will say it anyway... because I see first-hand, on a daily basis what a difference that has made for my husband. Like you he has an OC diagnosis, he also had lymph nodes effected, lungs and liver, he has been on chemo and immunotherapy for almost 18 months virtually every other week. He was give 4 - 12 month prognosis, so the best guest from the oncologist was off by quite sometime.. hopefully the same will be found for you.

Have you asked why they are choosing the treatment they are choosing? or whether there is a possibility of 2nd opinion if you do not feel happy with the information you have received so far?

Maybe you could phone through on the Macmillan helpline (the number is in my signature) talk through with them your thoughts and feelings and see if there is anything that they can advise you.

I hope that you can reach out for more advise either via Macmillan or your Oncologist team, and if all else fails, maybe you could look at the cancer research website to see if there are any trials which you may be suitable for.

I hope I have not overloaded you with suggestions, but do hope that you find something that will make you feel that there is reason to fight.

    Good Luck

    Lowe'
