Hi all, new here. I'm struggling at the min with alot of the typical symptoms. Trouble swallowing which comes and goes, pain in upper chest which is pretty constant, feeling sick and loss of appetite. Feel like I'm hitting a brick wall with GP and A&E all just putting it down to reflux and prescribing lanzoprazole and gavisgon which are not doing anything. GP finally ordered endoscopy but none urgent referral which could take weeks or months. I'm worrying myself sick over it all. I'm 33 years old with pretty much no risk factors. None smoker very rarely drink not overweight etc had 2 blood tests and chest x ray 2 weeks ago all normal. But I'm terrified something is being missed as nothing is improving but feels like it's getting worse

I keep hearing I have no risk factors my age etc etc, but I've suffered for years with my mental health and health anxiety inpaticular and the symptoms I'm experiencing are also classic anxiety symptoms. I done the worst thing possible and googled my symptoms and now I can't get it out of my head. Maybe it's time to try and tackle the anxiety while I wait for the camera appointment. Its destroying every aspect of my life at the moment the worry of it all. Numerous health professionals have now told me they don't have any major concerns but still doesn't eliviate my worry

  • Is it possible that your worries are not alleviated due to your mind overthinking? certainly for me, I became very concerned and was given a throat x-ray, which showed no concerns, so although I still get the phlegm ball in my throat I have started to do throat chakra work, to help me to clear the area.

I just do whatever I can to try to not concentrate purely on the negatives.

I hope that you can place your trust in the medical professionals as I have had to, and I also hope your wait for the endoscopy is over soon.

    Best of Luck

Yes it is really possible that my worry and overthinking are causing my symptoms to seem worse, and alot of the symptoms are mirrored with those of anxiety and stress. I think had I not googled my symptoms and took myself down a rabbit hole I would not be as bad as I am currently

I've just had a phone call to say I am being invited for a cytosponge test. Do you have any experience of this and what it's screening me for?

    Hi

my symptoms started off with things being swallowed ok,but just not flowing through the food pipe into the stomach almost as if you could measure  food dropping 8/9 inches and then a pain but no burning. I tried omaprazole for a week then another week at double the dose but still this pain of food hurting as it passed under my left breast plate.

They sent me for an urgent endoscopy which for me revealed cancer in the esophagus, food became harder to eat even soft foods, drinks where a struggle as it was just too painful.

For you it’s good they have done bloods several times as this wouid maybe have picked up something, I would for now bang the drum the best you can to get an endoscopy and this should put your mind at rest one way or another

  • Hi

I had not heard of the cytosponge test, but I have looked up the trials they did with it over the past couple of years, and it seems a really good opportunity.

I am thankful that the someone has progressed your requests for help.

Have a look at this information from Cancer Research  from 2018

    Daz,

Do you mind me asking how old you are? And if you had any of the typical risk factors before diagnosis?
