Anyone had this for esophageal cancer

First, I wish you well and that you successfully beat this encounter.

My experience--  I had difficulty in swallowing food and regurgitation.

In May, 2018, biopsy results:  adenocarcinoma, cancerous growth covering entry to the stomach at lower portion of esophagus.

I was told that I had "...6 weeks...get your affairs in order....".  Palliative treatment was recommended.  At this hospital:  palliative treatment is 7 chemo, 14 radiations.  My radiation oncologist suggested "...go for the cure...) and have 28 sessions of radiation (the max).

Treatment:  8 sessions of chemo (once a week for 8 weeks, Taxol and Carboplatin.  Simultaneously, 28 sessions of linac radiation (5 days a week, for 6 weeks)..

After 10 radiation treatments, I was able to swallow normally again!

During chem/rad, I only had one day of side effects--  very weak after the second chemo.  After that--  no problems.

Now almost three years later--  I continue to swallow normally.  I do have expected long term symptoms:  shortness of breath, weakness, and need to be cautious (immunity system is compromised.  Blood tests:  chronic low (but almost normal) red, white, lymphocytes, hemoglogan.

I do experience shortness of breath caused by scar tissue (?) in both lower lobes of lung (due to radiation).

I take short naps for the weakness....and I am doing fine considering that I am 86+ years old.

I hope you do as well as I did--  no, do it better!
