    Hello,

Can I ask what med's you take normally?

    Regards & very best wishes,

Yes I have bronchiectasis and take various inhalers and also nebulised antibiotics and thyroxine and carbocisteine

    Hi,

Carboceisteine for mucus thinning. Nebulisers for breathing. Thyroxine for hormones.

Normally they insist you do not take any type of blood thinners like Warfarin.

I just have a feeling that Carboceisteine may interfere with the PET scan.

I see no reason to stop the other 2 med's, mainly because the PET scan will penetrate through these. Carboceisteine is going to loosen mucus which may pool as you are lying down. I just wonder whether a PET scan would give a clear picture  where the mucus has pooled.  I would be on the phone asap to ask the x-ray department about what you need to stop taking.

Just remember, the only real concern is a blood thinning med, which you don't take.

And if you don't know this, remove all jewellery & any other metals before you go. The good news is it's absolutely pain free but quite loud, so no painkillers are needed.

Again, check 1st thing with the x-ray dep't.

And good luck, do not worry until you have something to worry about.

    Best wishes,

    Graeme.

Thanks so much. I will leave off the  carbocisteine in the morning

I asked radiology to call me back today, but they did not

My appointment is at 8.30 am so no chance of calling them again before I leave. Think I will take inhalers only and take the others on my return

After all it will still be mid morning when I arrive back home

i am not worried about the scan, having had a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy as well as a needle biopsy! I am, of course, very anxious about what will be shown on the PET, knowing already there are liver secondaries

But it is what it is, will do whatever I can to extend my useful life

    Thank  you for your responses

It is comforting knowing someone is out there

    Best

I wish you all the very best with your PET scan today. I think we had to wait a week for the results, so please try to relax. Remember, it may not have spread. And keep in contact with friends & family, it takes your mind off things talking about other stuff.

    My absolute best to you,

    Graeme.
