Hi I have recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer after endoscopy, biopsy and scan. I have a PET scan to be organised and a deeper biopsy and feeding tube to be fitted Friday under GA. I just want to get treatment underway. I'm not a candidate for surgery due to the location of the cancer, they would have to remove my voice box. They want to do chemo and radiotherapy. I don't know what stage etc but it is in 1 lymph node. I had endometrial in 2012 and underwent a year of treatment. I don't want to go through this again. I havent told my parents yet as it will break them xx

  • Hi Luu77

I am so sorry to read of your recent diagnosis, I can only imagine how much of a shock this has been for you. I am pleased you have been able to reach out here on the OC forum, you will find some great support here and you are very welcome.

I am often on this forum because my husband was diagnosed with OC in May last year, like you he is not suitable for surgery, this due to having secondaries in his lung and liver. He was fortunate to not have a feeding tube as he managed to continue on soft food until his treatment started and the found that almost immediately he was able to start eating, all-be-it in small bites, soon afterwards.

I can only imagine what is going through your mind at present Luu, after already undergoing a year of treatment for endometrial you have some expectations on how you will react to treatment, but I think it is fair to say that so much has happened in the world of research since 2012 the treatments, I believe are not so harsh, and although some people still have bad reactions to treatment, you may not have the same experiences as previous. I hear you when you say that you don't want to go through this again, (((HUGS))) I hope you can find the strength within you.

We are here for you, as I am sure your parents will be, when the time is right for you to tell them..

I hope the insertion of the feeding tube on Friday makes things easier for you, and that you have the biopsy and PET soon, followed by the results so that the correct treatment can get underway.

Thank you for reaching out here, please keep us updated, I am sending you strength at this very difficult time
